How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Take?

10 February 2026 · 4 min read

Plan for 2 to 3 hours

A traditional posed newborn photoshoot usually takes between 2 and 3 hours. Lifestyle sessions in your home tend to be shorter — around 60 to 90 minutes. That extra time isn't spent taking photos non-stop; it's spent keeping your baby comfortable and giving them space to settle.

What actually happens

  • 10–15 min: setting up, warming the space, chatting
  • 15–20 min: family and parent-and-baby portraits first
  • 20–40 min: feeding, cuddling, settling baby to sleep
  • 60–90 min: safely posed, wrapped and swaddled portraits
  • 10 min: final sibling / detail shots and wrap-up

Why we don't rush

The single biggest predictor of a beautiful newborn gallery is a calm, unhurried baby. Feeds, nappy changes, and mini cuddles are all welcome and expected — they're the reason the finished images feel so peaceful.
